My Tritech: Mike Broadbent
I began my career working for a new start-up company Ulvertech. The founders of Ulvertech had recognised the growing demand for sonar technology in the subsea industry and exploited the opportunity; it was a really exciting time to be part of the business and I felt privileged to be part of the team, I learned so much and was really inspired by the people around me.
I spent the next 20 years at Ulvertech, working in various areas of the business including electronic design, project management and technical management. The company evolved and changed greatly over this time to meet new market demands and I took every new opportunity to develop and evolve with the business.
In 2003 I co-founded a small subsea company, Ulvertech Engineering Limited which merged with Tritech three years later. Within a few years of the merger, I had moved into the business development side of the company, specialising in expanding our business in the defence sector and promoting our capabilities for military projects and applications.
In my current role as Sales Manager, I am based in the company's Ulverston office and have responsibility for managing the proactive sales function, working closely with our technical sales team to grow our business in the UK and in regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Far East, Africa, Central America and Australasia. The most enjoyable part of my role is definitely working with our customers to understand their applications and how we can supply solutions to meet their requirements. This can cover a range of aspects and includes both commercial and technical, so it's a very varied role.
I've been member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers for 22 years. My technical background is definitely very valuable in my role, as I have a full working knowledge of Tritech's products and how they operate, and can understand the technical challenges and requirements of our customers and their applications. At Tritech, no two customers are the same so it's great to work so collaboratively and seek out solutions together. There is always a new challenge and that's why I love what I do.
